Normally I would not post two times in one day - my life just isn't that exciting. But today is different! I want to share this with you immediately:
Spindle 7, the movie, is now live!
It will be embedded on my website soon but it will not be available for capture by others (sorry!). But please feel free to share the link.
I am very pleased with the result. The amazing camera work was done by Marcia Connolly, filmmaker extraordinaire from Toronto. She ruined a pair of jeans in pursuit of the best shots, even if it meant crawling around on the subway floor. Also, as a person with a much more extroverted personality, she pushed me to have yet one more encounter, even when I was ready to run off the train and cower in a corner somewhere. The editing was done by Susan Forste. She also did the interview that resulted in all of the voice over. I know for a fact that she is looking for new projects.
I hope you like it as much as I do.
Spindle 7, the movie is really fine. It has alot of meaning for me, Robyn... since I take the 7 everyday to the NY Hall of Science where I work as the Librarian. I crochet on the 7, and love the ride out there. I also totally love this project, the spinning, the interacting with other riders, your sweet energy and good will. The film is, both in form and content, a powerful creative expression. Cheers, Rebecca Reitz

ReplyDeleteRobyn, when I heard of Spindle 7 last year I was sorry I had missed it. Although, I didn't even know how to spin when you did this, and I am not sure I would even say I know how to spin now. But I am trying.
ReplyDeleteThe movie is so so so great. I love the scenery on the 7 train and your interactions with everyone, especially the man who got off to talk to you. Wow, you really touched people's lives that day. I hope you are considering a sequel..."Spindle 7 x 2". I would definitely come :) Thank you for sharing this! I am going to link to it on my blog later.
I just watched your movie and thank you for making it. I love how you broke the isolated silence and stone faces of the commuters with happiness.
ReplyDeletefound the spindle 7 project by accident. and i'm glad i did. this is a terrific project and wonderful movie. nicely done in every way. kudos to you three.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the wonderful comments. It has been great to re-visit this project via the video. Inspiring for some new work....
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful video. I love to see people coming together. People that might just sit silently side by side every day on the subway. How you brought people into a conversation - sharing something new - or revisiting something they new. It is wonderful!
